Two More Towers Proposed for Metrotown

A rezoning application has been submitted for 6380 & 6420 Silver Avenue by Belford Properties for two highrise towers on the 81,400 SF site. The application seeks rezoning under the C-2 and RM-5s designations in the Metrotown Centre Plan.

6380-6420 SilverA previous rezoning application had been made in 2012 for 6380 Silver Avenue alone, but it was determined by the City that the lot area was insufficient to support a tall tower.

West Vancouver Mulls Park Royal Towers

While the proposed Park Royal highrises were heralded as an opportunity to bring in affordable housing for disabled people, the mall itself was also called out as being a bad neighbour at the District of West Vancouver’s Monday night council meeting.

The shopping centre’s proposed two towers of 24 and 17 storeys above a twostorey commercial podium at 752 Marine Drive could include more than a few hundred residential units, office space, a village square and storefronts. It may also provide the Vancouver Resources Society, a nonprofit that provides services for the physically disabled, 10 accessible units for those with a disability or mobility issues.

On Monday night, council was updated on the status of the proposed towers that may take over the former White Spot location. Andrew Browne, senior community planner, told council following a staff review and obtaining preliminary public comments, the project was found as favourable overall.

More Towers for Burquitlam

Two major developers will soon have proposals before Coquitlam city council to add to the massive growth now happening in a neighbourhood with a future Evergreen Line station.

Last week, more than 80 people were at an open house in Burquitlam hosted by Beedie Living, which plans to rezone its property west of the Como Lake Avenue and Clarke Road intersection for a 26-storey residential tower that would link in with the YWCA Como Lake Gardens facility.

Houtan Rafii, Beedie’s vice president of residential development, told The Tri-City News the feedback was positive about its bid to build 180 homes plus seven townhouses and an amenity space for the YWCA to expand its affordable housing services to single mothers and their kids.

Beedie’s proposal, which has been formally submitted to city staff, would also include a multi-level parkade as well as a vehicle roundabout, close to the Evergreen station. Rafii said Beedie’s bid fits in with the city’s transit-oriented development and affordable housing strategies.
